E is for Escargot

Escargot is one of my favorite foods. If it's on the restaurant menu I order it every time. Most people think snails are gross and disgusting. If it crawls on the ground, they won't eat or even look at it.

Dave Barry, Pulitzer Prize winning humorist says, "Escargot is French for fat, crawling, bag of phlegm." It's France's way of tricking us Americans into eating what they find on their lawns and then charge us for it.

Seriously, when snails are repacked in their shells with parsley, rich butter, and garlic then baked or grilled it's simply fantastic. Don't forget your favorite Merlot and some hot crusty bread.

I love Dave Barry's books. Enjoy his brilliant humor along with a plate of snails, bread and wine. Happy reading and bon appetite.

I LOVE escargot! My husband couldn't handle them. Nor oysters on the half-shell. I always knew if I ordered them as appetizers I'd have them all to myself. No sharing required. LOL

I must say I have never tried them. I guess I should at least once to be able to say that I did. I do enjoy mussels with butter and bread. That probably isn't the same but it is something different that not everyone eats.

Hopped over from A to Z. Check out my post Darkness http://morgandragonwillow.com/2013/04/a-to-z-poetry-darkness.html

Happy Travels through your journey of A to Z!

I've never tried escargot, but I'm open to it. Especially the way you described it.

Enjoying what you're doing with the Challenge so far.

Great to hear from all of you. Do try them...you won't be disappointed.

Peggy, another escargot lover. We'll have to have dinner sometime with nothing but escargot.

Love escargot! Figured out early that it's the butter, garlic and parsley I love, but, I don't care. Great post.

E is for Eeeeeeeeewwwwwwww. They look and smell so nasty, no way Jose'. I don't even like to sit across from someone at a restaurant eating the slimy things, it's hard for me to enjoy my meal...I really have to advert my eyes...helps if it's a dark restaurant though.

I love escargot too! I haven't had them in ages. I never see them on the menu, at least not at the places I go in Minneapolis. I'll have to browse the appetizer menus and find a local spot and drag my husband out.

The garlic and butter sound scrumptious...but not the snail part, I fear. :)

I love them too - and my children, as little ones, ordered them whenever they were on the menu. I guess we really like garlic!
Snail+butter+garlic+crusty baguette = bliss!

I used to like them too ! I even have special dishes and tongs and little forks to eat them, but now I don't eat them anymore, for no reason. I prefer mushrooms prepared with the same sauce.
