Greeting Card Prices

I don't know about you, but I love to send and receive greeting cards; all kinds of cards. It's just who I am. However, it's getting to be a costly venture, so I've decided to make my own.

The last time I went to the store, it cost me $4.95 for a birthday card for a close friend. I'm not a cheapskate by any stretch of the imagination, but if I continue paying that much for a card times the amount of people whose birthdays I celebrate, I'll be broke in no time. And that's just birthday cards! That's why I decided to make my own cards.

Now I have a line of note cards created out of the Horse Pucky Studios office (which is really the second bedroom in my townhouse). People have enjoyed the individual cards I've sent them, so I thought I'd offer them to others who are as frugal as I am. It's $7.00 for a box of  eight cards plus shipping. I haven't shipped any yet, so I have not idea how much that'll cost.

Thanks Ev, for the inspiration for this post. Check out "Eye of Newt" to the right for a really fun blog to read, under "My Favorite Blogs".

1. we cheap like you, we don't buy card from walmart so why will we buy them from you

2. if you add the cost of material plus your time plus postage is it really cheaper to make your own

3. if you added up all the costs of all the cards i have sent over the last 10 years you get get to that large value of $0.00

4. based on point 3 you won't be getting a card from me this year either.

I already have multiple orders for the cards. Most of them are from local folks, so I just hand-deliver them on my way to the barn.

Lightly I think you may be a bit of a curmudgeon. A very loveable curmudgeon. I love your comments.

I want to order a Horse Pucky tee shirt and a box of note cards to put into a Christmas gift basket for someone who likes horses.

Hi Carla,

Consider it done. Just let me know the size of the tee. How about a gift bag of horse pucky for their indoor plants to add to the mix?

Oh, lightly, lightly, lightly. How many times have we told you, life is about making others feel all warm and fuzzy inside. And it takes a nice greeting card on occasion to inspire warmth and fuzziness in others. Or a bag of horse pucky.

Um, I'm not sure of that last.

Anyway, try this: take a crayon (20 cents each if you buy a bunch of them, but any 4-year-old will lend you one if you don't mind them too short) and some plain white paper (1 cent in bunches of 500) and write your name and some warm and fuzzy thoughts (free). Maybe add a picture of yourself or some flowers. Fold neatly, place into an envelope (10 cents or so) and mail it (44 cents, sorry) to your favorite person (I'll send you my address if you need it) and see how much better you feel.

Total cost: 75 cents, give or take. Making someone special feel warm and fuzzy: priceless.

XOXOXO
Newt

Ev, I'll be sending you a prototype note card soon. Your gift bag of horse pucky will be a special treat for your indoor plants and sent as an early Christmas gift.

Yes, cards make us feel warm and fuzzy. It's still the least expensive way to bring a smile to someone.
