As children and adolescents, Gram used to call us nincompoops when we did something really stupid, like blowing up paint cans by lighting them on fire. Or cutting one another's hair with her pinking shears. Or balancing on the second floor scaffolding of a new home under construction in the neighborhood. Or catching frogs and snakes and putting them in the bath tub along with grass, water and bugs.
Now that you have a pretty good idea of what a nincompoop is, you have a pretty good idea of who I am or was...or maybe still am.

things that make you a nincompoop
1) never put a water bucket in the corner of a round room, someone will step in it
2) never move the outhouse 5 feet to the left, someone will make a stink about it
3) never leave wax fruit in a farm kitchen , people will be spitting mad
4) never (and i mean NEVER) leave cow pucky on the door step, parents who slip on it will make you regret it, and kill you everytime someone laughs about it.

Ha! I think we all have a little "nincompoopness" in us!! But frogs and snakes in the bathtub takes the cake!!
haha! (Sorry, but I can just imagine the things you all got yourselves into!) ...well, along side having to be called nincompoops...you have to admit there was a lot of creative thinking and adventure!

It's a long time since I heard that word, Pam. It's a great word. For reasons that you can imagine, I wouldn't dare get up to some of the shenanigans (I love that word, too) that you did. Blowing up paint cans? Wow how exciting is that...lol.
I read that the term might have a biblical origin. Interesting.
OK, I've finally found someone who was a bigger nincompoop than me ;)

Nincompucky!...that's what a nincompoop does! Whenever I committed noncompucky, my dad would say "Why don't you use your head for something besides a hat rack?!" ...which is a phrase that's been muttered in our family for generations!

I love it! I can see you grew up in the great outdoors as we did in South Africa.

I love that word. I think I heard it a lot as a kid - Not necessarily because I did something stupid, but because it was used more often when I was younger.
